auto: when a new stable release is available for download, OpenELEC can automatically download, unpack and prepare the new release for installation. You'll then be notified about the pending update and informed a reboot is required to install the update.
manual: OpenELEC will check online for updates and inform you when one is found. However, OpenELEC will not download the update - you will have to manage the update process by downloading the package and copying it to the OpenELEC machine.
no: OpenELEC will not update itself automatically and will ignore any update files that are presented to it.
The ability to backup your data is always a welcome feature to any OS. This will create a tarball of everything in your /storage/.kodi folder (library, settings, etc), /storage/.config (OpenELEC Configs), and /storage/.cache (OE Settings addon configs)
Create System and Kodi Backup
Create a tar archive containing all OpenELEC and Kodi configuration settings, databases and thumbnail content. Backup files will be stored in /storage/backup
Restore a tar archive backup previously created using the backup option above
The ability to start fresh without a reinstallation is possible by selecting one of the option below.
Reset System Settings to defaults (SOFT RESET)
Permanently reset OpenELEC OS configuration to defaults (also resets Kodi to default including your library. your media - music/videos/etc are not touched) rm -rf /storage/.??*
Reset OpenELEC to defaults (HARD RESET)
Permanently reset OpenELEC OS and Kodi configuration to defaults (everything in your storage partition will be deleted) This formats your /storage partition, anything contained within this path will be lost
Warning, this is dangerous, use with caution and proper backups
Wait for network before starting Kodi
HTPCs which are running via SSDs can boot up OpenELEC too fast, resulting in the network part not being fully initialized inside Kodi. Enabling the option "Wait for network" usually fixes that. A value of 10-15 seconds is normally more than enough. This setting is also useful for people who are using a centralized, external MySQL database for their OpenELEC/Kodi clients.
Here, select the network device to be used for the network connection on your OpenELEC device. Select the network type (LAN or WLAN) and the adapter to be used (eth0 and eth1 are LAN adapters and wlan0 wlan1 are wireless adapters).
Choose here the technology used for the second network connection.
NONE: If no second connection
LAN: If you use Ethernet connection
WLAN: If you use Wireless connection
eth0/eth1: used for Ethernet connection
wlan0/wlan1: used for Wireless connection
This menu will appear only if Network Technology is either LAN or WLAN
Activate this option if you want to access the different folders of your OpenELEC system from the network. Using Samba gives you different advantages such as :
Copy your medias from other PC over the network.
Use your OpenELEC system as a simplified NAS
Use Samba Password Authentication
If you want to protect the network access, you can setup a username and a password, you need to activate this option to do so. The following 2 fields will appear once the option has been enabled
Input here the desired username to be used when connecting to the Samba share.
Input here the desired password to be used when connecting to the Samba share.
Auto-Share External Drives
Select this option if you want external usb drives to be shared automatically through samba
